Exfoliating Lotion

This lotion get’s it’s exfoliating power from Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA's)

What are AHA’s?

These are a class of chemical compounds that are often used in skincare products for their exfoliating and rejuvenating properties. AHA's are water-soluble acids derived from fruits and milk sugars. Some common types of AHA's include: .

  1. Glycolic Acid: Derived from sugar cane.

  2. Lactic Acid: Found in sour milk and yogurt.

  3. Citric Acid: Obtained from citrus fruits.

  4. Malic Acid: Found in apples.

  5. Tartaric Acid: Present in grapes

AHA’s vary in strength depending on their molecular size. Glycolic Acid is the strongest because it’s small molecular size can penetrate de skin deeper and citric acid is the weakest because of it’s bigger molecular size.

What is the best AHA to use?

It depends on what you want to do and your skin type! I like to use a pre-made mix ACB Fruit Mix of AHA’s so I get the best from all of them and the end result isn’t too aggressive for the skin. Remember, you don’t want to exfoliate your upper skin layer too much or it will be weaker and more prone to UV damage and irritation.

The INCI of ACB Fruit Mix is Water, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract

How do they exfoliate the skin?

AHA's work by exfoliating the outer layer of the skin, promoting cell turnover, and helping to unclog pores. This can result in a smoother, more even complexion and can be beneficial for addressing issues like fine lines, uneven skin tone, and texture irregularities. However, it's important to note that these acids can increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun, so it's recommended to use sunscreen when using products containing AHA's and to introduce them into your skincare routine gradually to minimize the risk of irritation. If you have specific skin concerns or conditions, it's advisable to consult with a dermatologist before incorporating AHA-containing products into your routine.
