Lipbalm from upcycled ingredients
In a world where sustainability is at the forefront of our minds, finding creative ways to upcycle ingredients not only reduces waste but also allows us to create beautiful, nourishing products right at home. In this DIY adventure, we'll be crafting a luxurious lip balm using upcycled ingredients like Mango Butter, Rice Bran Wax, Floral Wax, and Apricot Seed Oil. Get ready to pamper your lips while embracing a more eco-friendly approach to skincare.
Why Upcycled Ingredients?
Upcycling is all about transforming discarded or underutilized materials into something valuable. By incorporating upcycled ingredients into our beauty routine, we not only contribute to reducing waste but also discover the unique benefits these ingredients bring to our skincare rituals.
The Star Ingredients:
Mango Butter: Mango Butter, derived from the seeds of the mango fruit, is a rich and nourishing ingredient known for its moisturizing properties. Packed with essential fatty acids and antioxidants, it helps keep your lips soft, supple, and protected.
Rice Bran Wax: Rice Bran Wax, a byproduct of rice bran oil production, is an excellent natural alternative to beeswax. It provides a smooth, creamy texture to your lip balm while forming a protective barrier to lock in moisture.
Floral Wax: Floral waxes, often a byproduct of essential oil extraction, add a delightful aroma to your lip balm. Choose a floral wax like rose or jasmine for a touch of luxury!
Apricot Seed Oil: Apricot Seed Oil, extracted from the kernels of apricots, is light and easily absorbed. Rich in vitamins and minerals, it helps nourish and revitalize your lips, leaving them feeling soft and rejuvenated.

Method
1- Measure all ingredients of Phase A and heat them to melt.
2- Turn off the heat when Phase A has melted.
3- Add Phase B to Phase A while still on the double boiler.
4- Mix them well together and quickly pour on the lipbalm tube.
Notes
Quick fix regarding the sinkhole issue that can occur when the lip balm solidifies: simply pour some more liquid lip balm base on it or use a hair dryer to smooth the top out.
Depending on where you live, you may need to adjust the percentages slightly. I live in Spain which is quite a warm country and this bar does not melt when it gets very warm. So if you live in a colder country you could decrease the Rice Bran Wax by 1-2% and increase the Apricot Oil by 1-2%.
